Dear Parent/Carer,
I hope that this letter finds you well, as we head towards the Easter break. This academic year has continued to be one of much progress alongside important developmental changes, as we continue to embed the Curriculum for Wales, the new Additional Learning Needs Bill etc. in our school.
I would also like to make you aware of a further change that will come into effect after the forthcoming Easter break. At that time the current Headteacher of our neighbouring school, Llanwern High School, will be starting a new role in another local authority and they will therefore not have a Headteacher in post. In order to support the staff and learners of Llanwern High School, it has been agreed that I will take up a revised role. In this revised role I will effectively become the Headteacher of both Lliswerry and Llanwern High Schools until a permanent Headteacher is appointed at Llanwern. This has been arranged in consultation between the Local Authority and Governors from both schools.
I would like to reassure all parents and carers that my first consideration when agreeing to this arrangement was to ensure that it would not in any way be detrimental to Lliswerry High School and our learners. Throughout my time as Headteacher here I have carefully planned the development of leadership capacity and capability. I am therefore absolutely confident that we have the leadership in place at all levels of our school in order to undertake this arrangement in a highly successfully manner.
We are currently taking appropriate steps to ensure that our school leadership structure is adjusted in readiness for the start of this arrangement. This will ensure that effective leadership capacity continues to be in place to provide high standards of wellbeing and progress of our learners. Throughout this period, our experienced Deputy Headteacher Miss Fitzgerald will become Head of School at Lliswerry High School. As Executive Headteacher, I will retain the overall responsibility for both Lliswerry and Llanwern High Schools and will spend time at both school sites. This is an organisational arrangement that has worked successfully with schools in other local authorities in our region and across Wales.
Please be assured that I will continue to be fully committed to Lliswerry High School and our learners, alongside those learners at Llanwern High School. The added benefit that this arrangement brings is the opportunity for both schools to work closely together, in order to share good practice and learn from each other for the benefit of all learners and staff in both schools.
Best wishes,
N Davies
Headteacher
