Dear Year 11 Parent/Carer,
As you will be aware we are now approaching the start of the main summer exam series, with the first subject examinations starting on Monday 16th May. As far as our learners are concerned normal attendance at school is required up to May half term, which starts on Monday 30th May.
After half term a bespoke Year 11 timetable will come into operation, focusing on special revision sessions to support learners sitting each exam. This timetable has been e-mailed to all Year 11 learners. For the duration of this timetable Year 11 learners will be required to attend school unless told otherwise. The only times they will not be needed in school is if there is a revision session for a subject that they are not studying. If this is the case, they will be told that they do not need to attend.
The last official day of attendance for all Year 11 learners will be the end of June, but in reality they will not be attending once they have completed all of their examinations unless they are needed for other reasons e.g. to complete coursework. You will be contacted should this be the case.
Please note that we will be having an official leavers assembly for our Year 11 learners on 27th May following completion of their Chemistry examination. Those learners who will not be sitting the Chemistry exam will need to be in school for 11 a.m. On this day Year 11 learners will be leaving school at approximately 12.30pm. Any learner who has taken Electronics as an option will remain in school, as they have that subject’s exam in the afternoon.
Please do discuss the things I have highlighted above with your child if you haven’t already done so.
I would like to thank you all for everything you have done to support your child and our school. Together we have been through a global pandemic, on top of the other ‘normal’ celebrations, trials and tribulations of school life and teenage years! This Year 11 will always have a special place in my heart, as I started as Headteacher on the same day they started in Year 7. Additionally, I taught most of them Design and Technology when they were Year 7 learners and I can still remember them sitting in my classroom during those lessons – how quickly they grow up!
I hope that you and your child have a fantastic summer break following the completion of the summer examinations, and that they get the results they deserve in August on results day (further information to follow regarding this and revision/exam preparation). If you would like any further information or support, please do not hesitate to contact us. I look forward to seeing most of our Year 11 learners once again in September, when they embark upon the next stage of their lives as part of our school’s Sixth Form.
Best wishes,
Neil Davies
